Question about basking spot size...

I use a UTH and I was wondering does the basking spot need to be 90F at the substrate level for the entire length of that particullr side of the cage, or is the baksing spot only required to cover a small area on the "hot side" of the cage?


I have the UTH on the bottom right side of the cage and it covers is 90F over the pad. Does it need to be 90F on the entire right side of the cage? If I move the probe towards the top right of the cage off of the pad it obviously drops a bit beloe 90F to around 85 or so. Does this spot need to be 90 as well?

It's recommended that the basking spot be between 1/3 and 1/2 of the enclosure. The hottest point anywhere in the cage should <=95.

I think as long as they have some area that's in the recommended warm areas. You're probably fine.

Try to achieve a hotspot of 90-95 at the location of the hot side's hide. You will also need an identical hide on the cool side (around 85* F). BP's will spend most of the time in their hides, therefore it s important you provide proper temperatures in these areas.

As long as you provide a hot spot (just the surface temp) of 90-92* you are good to go. The ambient temp above the hot spot does not also need to be 90*. An Ambient temperature of 85* on the hot side is perfectly fine.
