New BP owner - is my snake underweight?

i dont think hes old enough to weigh a kilo unless i shove a brick down his throat lol but ill post a thread about that ratio thing. someone should know

2nd lovelace....5 day feed cycle....you could probably offer 2 if she will take it. A good thing to look at when trying to figure out if they are underwieght is to look at their shape...are they a bit triangular, can you see the backbone. That is a tell tale sign.

Nuked it? You never microwave mice. Thaw and use a hairdryer to warm up the outside.

For reference, my 1.5 year old snake is 1300g.

My 5 month old snake is 300g.

Is it underweight? I would say yes. Nothing a good feeding schedule can't fix though.

It was fully submerged in the bowl of water when microwaving it. Water is that still bad to do?

If so, I guess I'll just reheat the water alone.

I thought it might be too cool, so I placed it back in the bowl of warm water and nuked the mouse for an additional 15 seconds.

Yes. That will only limit it to 212*F--more than enough to cook any meat.

you can microwave water by itself, but not with the prey item.

Microwaves COOK the prey item, they don't heat them up.

Yes, you will be able to see the backbone depending on the way the snake is moving or laying. For me, the easiest way to tell, is pt your snake on a hard, flat surface and look at it's general shape. If it has a flatter, straighter appearance between the spine and belly, then the snake may be under weight. If it has a gereally rounded look, then it should be ok. If you have a couple of pics of your snake from different angles, not curled up, it would help...
