temp issues
so, as we all know it is summer.
my apartment is getting much hotter because of this,
so much that my rack temps got up to about 95.
as I dont have heat tape, I am currently using heat pads (yay)
today I changed from belly heat to backing heat, but even that isn't enough.
temps are still about 92.
when I didnt have the pad plugged in my ambient heat was about 85.
Im having a hard time creating a proper hot spot and cool spot like this.
any suggestions?

Re: temp issues
Wait, why did you change to back heat? I would just stay with belly heat.
92 or 95 are acceptable hot spots. I shoot for around 92*
85* ambient is a perfect temperature.
What is the problem? You are using a thermostat, correct?

Re: temp issues
Are you using any type of fans for ventilation?

Re: temp issues
I would recommend getting a thermostat. This should solve the problem. Also with heat mats or pads...they can spike up in temps without a thermostat. Also you can get flexwatt tape from reptile basics super cheap.

Re: temp issues
i live in canada so heat tape is a little harder to get at a good price.
i just feel its too hot in there for them...
they are all wedged as far from the heat source as possible
no on the thermostat
and no on the fan

Re: temp issues
What kind of thermometers are you using? where are they placed in the tub?
I would get a thermostat ASAP.

Re: temp issues
we have some members here including a mod that live in Canada. (Bruce Whitehead) PM him and ask them where he is getting his stuff, he might have some good suggestions for you.'
Also get a fan in there that will help. But not to preach or anything...but unless you are monitoring the temps 24 hrs a day....I would imagine that it is spiking much higher without the thermostat. In the interim....you could put a piece of tile between the heating element and the tank....that would catch some of the heat coming off.

Re: temp issues
Ok ok I'll let the secret out for you canadians...
Buy your heat tape from beanfarm. Just google it, I forget the site. For me in Ontario I get it after shipping and everything about $2.75 per foot for the 3" stuff.
They are amazing to deal with as well. The best customer service ever. They also sell thermostats but all you need is a dimmer. You can get a complete dimmer kit from Canadian tire for like $8.

Re: temp issues
You gotta get something to control heat! I know it may not seem that important, but years ago when I first got my bp I didn't have anything to control heat either. During a hot day I went in to my snake room, and the temp was over 115*f! I was lucky I caught it, but you really don't want the after effects. Neurological problems, thermal burns, neither of which are fun.
