Help!!!!!!!
im new to snake keeping and im having some problems. first i am having trouble getting the temperatures n my 3 year old pastel females cage i have both a uth and a heat lamp on the enclosure but the temp still remains between 77 and 82 on the hot side and i dont know what to do. secondly when i got her she was in the middle of a bad shed and the skin near her eyes hasn't come off. Also i just got a 4.5ft pastel male and when he got here i put him n a tank n a different room cause from what im told im suppose to keep new snakes seperate from my other snakes for the first week so i left him alone all day then tonite when i offered him food he wouldn't eat. O n my female wont eat either. These two are the only ones we have that are having problems the other three snakes are fine. Please help me out n let me know what i need to do

Re: Help!!!!!!!
Since boas seem to like a higher humidity around 60%, that heat lamp is definitely not helping with the humidity.
How are you measuring the temps?
As for the stuck shed, put the snake in a warm damp pillow case and the shed may come off. If not you may need someone experienced with snakes & bad shedding to help out. In the meantime, try to increase your humidity.
The snakes could just be finicky eaters, or it could be way too cold in the tank for them to even be in the mood to eat. Do you have any photos of your setup?

Are they gauges or digital? Gauges aren't necessarily accurate all the time. I like using digital thermometers with probes to tell my temps. If it's cold in your house that can be a factor of the cool temperatures.
You don't have to take the heat lamp off, cover 2/3 of the lid with saran wrap or plexiglass so the humidity doesn't escape as much. You'd probably be misting the enclosure once or twice a day to maintain good humidity.
What you can do is buy a plastic Sterilite, Rubbermaid, or Iris tub that can fit the snake along with their hides and dish.
You can drill holes around the sides until you can get the humidity where you want it.
Then you can attach a UTH underneath the tub (on one side only, let it cover only 1/3 of the bottom of the tub) with some aluminum/foil tape. Duct tape isn't very good to use.
Make sure the UTH is controlled by a thermostat. Uncontrolled UTHs can get about 130F and cause severe burns on your snake or overheating which can kill it. Either way you may not have a good ending if that UTH gets too hot.
Tubs work great for keeping humidity and you can control your temps a lot better (plus they are very light weight!). Make sure you've got a digital thermometer with a probe (Accurites work very well and can tell cool side, warm side, and humidity) to put on the bottom of the tub underneath the substrate right where the UTH is.

Re: Help!!!!!!!
-What type and size of enclosure are you using (dimensions).
-What is the size of the UTH?
-What are you controlling it with?
-what type of substrate are you using and how thick is it?
To post pics, you need to upload them into your Gallery on this site or other site like Photobucket, etc... To put them in your post, open up another internet browser window, go to where your photos are. Somwhere around the photo you should find a list of links for it, HTML, Direct Link, BB, etc... Look for the code that starts with [IMG]. Copy and paste that code into your post. You can click on the "Preview Post" button to see if it worked or not...

All new animals should be quarantined for at least a month, snakes can go off feed for a variety of reasons, just make sure your husbandry is correct, they should feed before too long (knock on wood)
