    Lines on the eyes? Scales?

My boyfriend and I just got a beautiful 4 foot ball python at a reptile expo a couple of days ago. He's been doing great, but one of the first things we noticed about him was what appears to be lines going through his eyes. It almost looks like he has several clear scales covering both his eyes, and I just don't know what it is because I havn't seen this on any other snakes. Any ideas about what this is from?

He looks like a good looking "normal", mine has the line through the eyes deal to, the white in the eye...I'm not to sure about...I'm sure someone here will chime in and give you some info....It might go away after a shed...

Re: Lines on the eyes? Scales?

If by lines you mean creases or dents in the eyes this is a common but easily fixed problem. It's normally caused by dry conditions in the enclosure. Raise the overall humidity to 60-70% as if the snake was in shed. You can also mist daily until the eyes plump up again.

    Hope this helps

Gavin is correct. BPs require higher humidity than previously thought. Raise the humidity and make sure his temps are correct for his hot side/cool side. By the time he sheds again his eyes will be crystal clear. You will need a digital thermostat/hygrometer to monitor your temps and humidity. Keep the humidity at least 60%-65%. The Accurite weather station from walmart is what many of use. Its in the hardware section by the thermostats.

thanks for the quick info but the tank is right around 85 degrees and the humidity is at 65, we just got him over the weekend from an animal shelter that rescued him like two years ago. Hes been eating fine it just seems like he doesnt notice the mouse until i touch him with it. Im just worried because they seem pretty deep and they look just like scales.

85* and 65% is good. Does he have a hot side of 90*?

He may have stuck eye caps. If so, nothing to worry about. When you see him go into blue with blue/white eyes bump humidity to about 75% until he sheds. The old caps should come off no problem. Give him 2 or 3 good meals in the next 2 weeks and I bet he will begin a shed cycle soon. He'll look good as new before you know it. Just dont be tempted to pick at the eyes. This is very dangerous.

Re: Lines on the eyes? Scales?

So weve taken all of this into account and still has the "eye caps" hes shed and the shed came off fine with the creases on the eyes, so i got all excited and picked him up to look face to face and found that they are still there, the temps are steady and weve been misting him every few days, but to no avail, is there any way he might just be like that?
