Aspen Smell?
Hey everyone!
I recently switched over to a new kind of aspen substrate. It has a smell that I'm not used to. The reptile kind that I usually buy doesn't really have an odor but this brand does. I got it from the small animal section of the petstore, it is a huge bag for an extremely cheap price compared to the regular bedding from specialized reptile companies. The bag claims that it is aspen and that it has no oils.
Just wondering if this was okay to use with my snakes? Will the odor bother them or have harmful effects?
Thanks so much,

Re: Aspen Smell?
Take some pics. Some aspen I guess has a smell to it. The aspen I use for my rodents has a smell in it, and it doesn't have pine or cedar, just regular aspen bedding.

I had a bag like that once. I bought it at petco. It worked fine but i only used it once before my dogs tore the bag up. I normally use the petsmart aspen which costs about $9 for a nice sized bag and has no odor to it. Same stuff i see at local reptile stores.

Re: Aspen Smell?
When i used the shredded aspen i couldnt smell much.
But when i opened my big bag of aspen you can smell it.
For some reason the chipped apsen i got has a smell and the shredded zoomed kind didnt.
