Re: Oil Spill Photos
Those are some of the best pics Ive seen on it....we share a building with a restoration/disaster recovery company...they have had safety training going on for the last week. They all pulled out Monday heading for Alabama. From what I gathered they are getting a large section of the coastline to work. They were called to bring over 2,500 workers. Recovery is going to be a long dreadful process. And our Hurricane season down here starts in June.

Drilling offshore is vital to our economy. We need more drilling, but with alot more regulations. If the government enforced the laws of offshore drilling this would not have happend. If we suspend all offshore drilling we would have to rely on other countries to produce our oil. Where do you want your money going as for me Ill spend it here in the U.S.A.

He never said that we need to spend the money somewhere else, he said we need to find alternatives for fuel. Oil wont last forever and an Oil Spill will be an Oil Spill not matter where it happens in this World. This kind of thing affects everyone Worldwide.

Halliburton did the cement job 20 some hours before the well blew out, there is no way that they are responsible. That would be like you throwing a bunch of rocks in a dumpster then 24 hours later it catches fire and you get blamed.
The Blow Out Preventer (BOP) failed a safety test (hydraulic leak) with-in about 12 hours of the accident (I think I might be wrong on my time frame). The inspector from the gov. was there and signed off on the safety
British petroleum is at fault because they allowed the rig to operate without repairing the BOP.
The federal gov had a plan that was developed in 1994 that put "scrubber" boats in the Gulf. The operation requires two boats, they only had one. This allowed the oil to get to our shores. You can't really blame this administration solely, Obamas not in charge of boats in the gulf. You can blame the guy who is in charge of that missing boat, he was white water rafting in the grand canyon with his family a week after the spill started. The federal gov can be blamed on several levels but they didn't cause the fire that eventually caused rig to go down and create the spill.
I do not know all the players in this game those are the ones that I have learned enough about to not be talking out of turn. In summery the people responsible for the financial side of the spill... BP
We need to hold our federal administrators responsible for their part. The man in charge of the gulf coast should be fired. The man who was white water rafting with his wife during this accident should be fired.
The federal safety inspector, the safety inspector on the rig, the on-site BP representative, and the company that owns and tested the BOP, that signed off on the BOP should be held to the highest level of responsibility, they ultimately caused this accident.
I am "working" right now and have been interrupted several times, this started out as a much better post

Curious about something. My understanding is that this rig was about 50 miles off shore? A country traditionally, by the law of the sea, owns 12 miles out from its shore. I understand how this is our problem since it's all going to wash up on our shores, but how is it the United State's jurisdiction to hold hearings and regulate the industry?
Not saying that nothing needs to be done, just wondering how it works in a legal sense.

Which law would have prevented them from hitting that methane pocket?

I work in the oil and gas industry in the gulf also. The accident /spill is horrible and should not have happened.
The drilling procedures were approved by MMS(Minerals Management Service) which is run by the feds.

Hey if we can find effective ones I am all on board.
MY biggest problem with this spill is if they had had the correct emergency shut off systems in place this could have been stopped easily and we'd only be mourning the rig workers.
I know that the equipment I heard on the news cost more but accidents like this affect everyone in the gulf.
You all know my mind I hate government intervention, but safety equipment as vital as that should be mandatory on all off shore rigs. I don't care congress does have authority to protect our waters and this also greatly affect interstate commerce.
I pray for the fishermen, the entertainment sector, and all the wildlife and mashlands. There are lots of sea turtle that are already endangered that will be affected by this. I wish I knew some way to make a difference.

Hair is being collected at salons and dog groomers to make the oil absorbing booms.
Donate your hair!
Google it.
They installed a production liner and then cemented. There was obviously a bad cement job! (IMO)
They were going to remove the subsea riser. The drilling mud was being displaced with sea water so the riser could be removed. The mud was heavier than the sea water and holding back any well pressure.
Before displacing the mud in the riser with sea water, a TA(temporary abandonment) cap was installed and tested from the top side. Not tested from below the TA cap. (IMO)
