I love them all!! What that other poster stated....you will usually end up with both anyways.
Snakes to me are more calming...more relaxed...certainly easier to keep and much less room. Lizards on the other hand are ALLOT more work!! I have a skink and a beardie, and in August I will have a tegu...they take tons of time!! But also they interact a little more with you than a snake persay. But again they require more attention and much larger enclosures if you are going to do it right.
You also have to think about if you travel...with a BP I can leave for a week and all is ok. With my lizards that is not possible...I have to find sitters. Unless of course it is winter and the stars align correctly and everyone is in brumation.
