They typically lay 25 - 35 days after their pre-egg laying shed. I've had them lay as early as 23 days and as late as 46 days.

When they are building they are looking for the cool side. It's thought that wrapping around the water bowl enhances the coolness. I'm not sure that anyone knows why they crave coolness when they are building Building is when the follicles start to develop (the very beginnings of eggs), this happens before they ovulate. I don't know if that snake is building, but the picture seems to suggest it. They will seek the hot side and never leave it once they had their prey lay shed. USUALLY, but snakes don't always go by the book.

as you said they dont always go by the book, the girl that just layed eggs for me, took 47 days after shed and did NOT stay on the hot spot once. instead she cruised around constantly
