Re: Advice on My eggs
Seems kinda early to see dimpling. That makes me think humidity is low or maybe too much air movement.
Personally I always place my eggs in the vermiculite directly and have never had any problem whatsoever. I would add more water to vermiculite since its substrateless, as longs as water dosen't touch eggs you should be fine.

Re: Advice on My eggs
Cover the tubs tops with Press-n-Seal and then put the lid back on.

Re: Advice on My eggs
If your eggs are optimally incubated, you won't see any dimpling until around day 45. You don't have enough humidity in your bins. Add some water and they'll plump right back up.

Re: Advice on My eggs
Is it too late to mix some fresh tubs up of 1:1 by weight Vermiculite and water and sink my eggs into it? Wish i had opted for this method in the first place. Are we talking lots of water and just make sure my eggs aint touching it.
Itll mean completely removing my eggs and re mixing.. will this be fine on the eggs if im carefull?
Sorry forgot to mention they are incubated at 88-88.5

Re: Advice on My eggs
You're definetly losing too much humidity if they're dimpling that early. The press and seal stuff works pretty well, they don't need much air exchange this early in their incubation. You also might want to cover them with a well wrung out damp paper towel to help them plump back up a little quicker.

Why can't you just add some more water? Since you are going substrateless the Vermiculite can be soaping wet. I would also go out and get some Glad Press in Seal it will hold in the humidity. Tubs aren't air tight by any means.

Re: Advice on My eggs
I have been reviewing my tubs
vermiculite is now sopping wet , I have doubled up the amount of vermiculite aswel. These tubs i am using have a rubber seal in the rim of the tub to seal them air tight 'Aparently' anyway.
Ill just leave them and wait and see i guess.
Ill keep you posted on the outcome but please feel free to offer any more advice.

Re: Advice on My eggs
Just a quick update on these. After , i made adjustments to the moisture levels they havent sunk in any further and if anything seem a tiny bit better (not much though)
Does it normally take a few days for them to plump back up or should it be a pretty quick thing? Im learning so many lessons at the minute...my head hurts

Re: Advice on My eggs
Good news, Keep the humidity up and you will not see further dimpling until around 45 days. You shouldnt have any problems because of the dimpling that has occured. Did you do any measuring of water when you set up the egg tub or just eyeball it? If you measured then weekly add the amount of water that you have lost. If you can slow down your fan in the incubator to keep the air flow from drying the egg tubs to quickly. I dont use press and seal either, nothing against it but it really isnt needed if everything else is right. I use 99cent 6qt tubs with no holes drilled in them. I mix the perilite and water 1.1 when the eggs are laid and I dont have to add water anymore. I also have a 6qt tub of water sitting on top of a heat panel in the bottom of my incubator. That keep the humidity up just fine.
