buying frozens

what is considered bulk? 100+ or 500+.
im thinking of trying to get my snake (once i get it) established on f/t rats.
i dont have the heart to kill anything myself & really am starting to frown on feeding live cuz of the possible injuries to the snake.

Are you planning on buying locally or from online?

I know where I buy my frozen rats you get a discount if you buy whole sheets as opposed to single rats. A sheet consist of 15 small rats or 20 weanlings.

i was considering buying online since i have no idea where to get them locally for a good price. the local petco/petsmart sells them for way too much & only 3-4 per pck. we're talking $5-$7.99 for a 3 pck! rediculous!

You might want to do some poking around and see if you can find a local supplier. I was driving 4 hours (round trip) once a month to buy rats, but just this past weekend I found out about a place that breeds their own feeders that is only 15 minutes away.

I would recommend f/t for sure.
Make sure that you do not buy too many. You can't keep them in the freezer forever. Lots of people recommend 6 months I think. I have heard they might be fine up to a year though? Maybe someone could back me up.
What size are the rats you were looking at for 5-8 bucks? Where I live, rats are illegal period. They do not exist period, and have to be shipped in! You can probably guess we pay BANK for rats.

i was only planning on buying the amount i'd need per month so that i wouldn't have to worry about them going bad due to having too many. i figured
1 rat per week = 4-5 rats per month or
buy 1 10-25 pck (depending on the size of the rat)...that would be 2-5 months of food for 1 snake. i think thats a better deal then buying 3-4 rats for almost $10.
mr.s - the frozen rats i was talking about are different sizes & different prices but they ranged from $5-$8 for all of them & they only come in 3 pcks...not a good deal in my opinion.

How far are you from Aynor or Columbia SC? I have friends there that may be willing to sell you rats. Online rats are reasonable...shipping will kill you!!!

i believe we're an hour and a half from columbia never heard of aynor...i can tell you right now my fiancee will not drive to columbia for rats + they'd be thawed by the time we got home.

Well then here are your choices.

Find some1 locally who breeds em and sells em

Find some1 else who is willing to go half on a frozen shipment

Buy them from a pet store

Buy the bag your self

A bag of Hoppers and anything smaller generally comes in a bag of 100. And Weanlings and large adults come in bag of 50. Now a bag of 50 large adults only cost $22.50 from rodent pro. But be prepared to spend $50 on shipping.

So thats around $75 for 50 mice which is $1.50 per mouse. Still cheaper

Edit: And no if u drove out there to get em they would not thaw out in a hr and a half. I bought my bag of 50 from the clev show and was good all the way here about 3 hrs later

Edit 2:BTW all frozen rodent shipping is around $50 no matter where u go pretty much
