Wow, I'm so sorry that this happened at all. I'm sorry the snake had to go through that, and I'm sorry that you were put in this situation! I am glad that the poor thing is finally at peace though.

    RIP, little guy.

It will cause the snake to not eat for a very long time. The truth is, the amount of pain and stress this is causing is not worth it. There is not even any guarantee that all that skin could ever grow back. IMO the best thing would be to put it down.

Poor little guy. You did the right thing, though.

I agree that either severing the spinal cord or... bludgeoning, like you did, provided it was uber quick, is the best way to go. Any injections, gassing, or freezing is way too prolonged. Their metabolisms are simply too slow. It sounds barbaric, to have to put something down that way, but unless it's a mammal, I say it's the best.

You did it with a rock?

No offense, but could you be any less professional and cruel about it?

Excuse me? Rock or hammer, destroying the brain is the fastest and thus the least cruel way you can kill something. Pithing is considered one of the humane ways to kill, which is destroying the brain by inserting a spike into the brain and scrambling it. Destroying the brain with a humane bolt gun, or anything that destroys the brain is best.

Brutal? Yes. But not cruel. Ugly and messy maybe, but it gets the job done, which is to kill the animal as quickly as possible.
