Saw my first ever blood in person!

I saw my first ever, in real life, blood python today. She was ENORMOUS!!! I had no idea they got sooooooo big. For some reason I thought they were short and thick... never knew they were long and super thick.

This girl was so gentle. Her owner says she has never struck anyone ever. What a gem...

So... I'm no longer a virgin... I've finally seen one!

Re: Saw my first ever blood in person!

I remember seeing my first blood, I fell in love and he has been a really rewarding snake to raise.
Here's a pic when around the time he first arrived last April. All the way from NH to OR.

This is him about a month ago.

So are you thinking of getting one?

Re: Saw my first ever blood in person!

I know exactly how you feel. I saw my first blood sometime around 1995. I fell in love and wanted one so bad. I saw my first one at a reptile store near me and my second one at an arachnid store in chicago that same year. Both store owners told me they were hard to care for, got huge and were not very nice. So I never got one. I instead got a burmese.

After I found out that they are not at all what people thought they were years ago I was determined to get one. Now I have 2 of the sweetest baby borneos I have ever seen! They have never struck at me and never musked. I think all the snakes in the blood family are just amazing. When you can afford one and the proper housing, you wont regret it

Bruce... and you are wondering how you ended up with over 80 snakes? *giggling*

I'm not planning on getting one of these. IF I were to get another snake other than a ball... it would probably be another RTB. I looooooved having her and miss her - although I do have visitation rights LOL - Still I do miss her.

But... we are trying to focus on balls and corns. So... no new snakes for me (except for an amazing new ball morph female in the not too distant future!!!)

Re: Saw my first ever blood in person!

I remember the first time I saw a picture of a blood! At the time I only owned one snake (BP) and had very little experience. I went slack-jawed and became depressed because I knew that, at the time, I couldn't handle such a large, potentially aggressive snake. I made the mistake of going back over and over again finding pictures of them until about a year later I caved and got a cute little breit. The smell and the constant peeing on me gets pretty old after a while, and dodging his pretty little teeth takes a good deal of energy, but all in all, I'm just as much head-over-heels for shorties as I was when I saw my first.
