    Few small simple questions.

So I picked myself up an acu rite thermometer today. I placed it into the girls tank, and wholey heck! Her UTH temp was up around 123 degrees f. Needless to say, I unplugged it. I do plan to get a dimmer, and will be getting one next pay check. Which is in about a week. As of right now, her tank is an ambient of 82(UTH side) to 84(lamp side). With a humidity of 80%. I know I don't have a "basking" spot, that will be where the uth is once I get the dimmer, and I'll turn off the lamp all together, because the temp in my room currently is at 80 something by it's self with the window closed.

So my questions are: Will this be okay for her until I get the dimmer? I have nothing else to really use as heat for a "basking" spot until the dimmer.

Should I just all together unplug the lamp, and only turn it on at night when my window is open? Even though it's nice for her, it's to hot for me, but it's to cold out for me to turn off the lamp and have the window open.

I would say that the temps you have are good for a few days since you don't have a dimmer right now. 80% humidity is too much though. My humidity for my ball is between 55-60% on the average day, and I bump it up to 70% when I notice he's about to shed. Just get a dimmer as soon as possible.

Okay. I'll lower humidity for sure. And thanks for the tips on the temps. I will be getting the dimmer the moment I can. What about the lamp for the night while my window in open? Because it gets kinda cold in here, I close the window once I wake up though, and it gets nice and warm in here for her.

That should be okay! I would not turn the lamp off! It will give the snake a slightly warmer side. I would invest in a therostat so you never have to worry about regulating temps. With the dimmer, you need to adjust it daily as your room temps changes! You can get a Reptitemp 500r for about $30 online!

Okay. Then I'll do that. I'll switch her timer over so it stays on 24/7 until I get the dimmer. And yeah, thats the one I was looking at online, and will put in my purchase for it the day I get the money. Is there a certain type of thermostat that anyone suggests? And would it be attached to the lamp, or the uth with dimmer? Sorry, if the questions sound idiotic, I'm new at all of this.

    Re: Few small simple questions.

Thermostats and dimmers are different. Thermostats turn the power on and off to regulate the temperature to a set point. Dimmers just control the constant amount of power, which would make the actual temperature of the UTH/tank fluctuate with the ambient temperature. The Reptitemp 500R thermostat is pretty well recommended for a single setup. It has plugs for two devices, a light that to tell you when the power is on or off, and a dial to adjust the setting. There's no feedback but the light, no numbers or anything, so you have to go by what your thermometer says the temperature of the glass directly above the UTH is, and adjust until it stays within the recommended range. I think anywhere between 90 and 95 F is good.

Now, I'm just spittin' back out the stuff I've read along with a little experience, and people may not like that, but I'm tryin' to help and if the advice is bad, it's advice I've received here, so...

Here what i do seeing as im in a similar situation seeing as it gets cold in my room at night

I have A thermostat (zilla temp control) the repti-temp works good to. Anyways i have my flexwatt(a uth from petstore is fine to) hooked up to my tstat. This give me my hotspot of like 92* and since my room temp is around 80* during the day i dont need a lamp. However at night i cannot sleep in 80* it has to be cooler so i open window and temps drop down to 70*

So what i do is turn on my lamp and this is hooked to a dimmer. Dim it down low enough so it only gets the ambient temp up to 80. If i leave the lamp on full blast it gets about 95* which is to much so i just dim it down enough to get it to around 80*

Wouldnt consider it "hype" just more of one of them MUST need devices next to your tstat
