I have seen ball pythons get burns at 105-110 degrees.
Sometimes, it can happen if at 100F for a long period of time.
If you're worried about a thermostat failing, you can get a switch that will cut off the voltage if it gets too high or malfunctions. I forget what they're called.
Dimmer switches will also prevent the thermostat from getting above a specific voltage.
