kingsnake is probably your best option unless you find someone who breeds them. just keep checking the "Rosy, Sand, and Rubber Boas" section every once in a while

    Re: Rubber boa ?

I'm not 100% but I think that it's illegal to sell Rubber Boas. I looked into it last year and I know it's definitely illegal to sell them in Washington.

However, if you're just looking to have a Rubber Boa as a pet and are from Washington or another state that allows the live capture of Rubber Boas, then all you need is a fishing license. They don't really have anything specific to Rubber Boas last I checked...

The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife DID email me directly on the issues, though they seemed like they were avoiding giving completely truthful answers. They stopped responding to me once I asked if I could breed and sell Rubber Boas from a state that allowed the export of native Rubber Boas.

So yeah, your best bet is to check Kingsnake once in a while or look into your state laws if you can just go out and get one yourself

(I'm too lazy to go through this right now and edit it, but Pennsylvania doesn't seem to be Rubber Boa territory, sorry)

    Re: Rubber boa ?

    "Conservation Connection
Rubber boas are not an endangered species. They occur widely in their range and can be locally common. Their populations appear to be healthy. Major threats to local populations include pesticides, agriculture, suburban development, paved roads and collection for the pet trade.

Overcollecting of rubber boas is a significant threat to their continued survival in the wild. Currently, it is illegal to sell wild-caught rubber boas in the United States. Some states have severe penalties that could result in fines or even imprisonment for collecting or keeping rubber boas. Unfortunately, other states have only minor restrictions or limitations.

The increasing demand of the pet trade lowers numbers of many reptile populations to the point where they may become extinct in the wild. Every year, many more wild-caught animals die than ever reach pet stores. Those that survive are often stressed, malnourished and untamable."

    Taken from http://www.zoo.org/Page.aspx?pid=527

With a high demand in the pet trade and the fact it (at the time of the article) is illegal to sell Rubber Boas, why not create a special license for the collection and export of them? Say 10 wild caught a season per license, limit of 100 licenses? Blah...

It would probably help the economy too >.> lol

    Re: Rubber boa ?

I found two Rubber Boas at the White Plains Expo in NY the last time I went. If you happen to go to an expo, I would just keep asking around. The guy didn't have them out but behind his counter. My friend has three right now and was looking to pick up a few more but the guy had said that they had yet to eat. He said we could take our chances but at that price it wasn't really worth it. I would just keep asking around if I were you. They're one of my next purchases too. Awesome little snakes
