    Question about hides.

OK, I understand two hides benefit the snakes, but here's the thing. I use 15q. tubs and my Mojaves are 300g+. With two hides and a water bowl, there is hardly any room to move around in there. So I was thinking of removing one and was wondering which one to remove, the hot spot or cool side? These tubs are in a melamine rack so the hot spot is in the rear of the tub which makes it more secluded. Those of you that have 15 quart tubs, what do you do?

    thanks,

    Dave

    Re: Question about hides.

They don't need space to "move around". they spend 90% of their time hiding and the rest is spent cruising waiting for a meal to happen by.

If you are using a rack system you could easily get away with one hide. In my 15 qt tubs I have virtually no open floor space. Just a hide and a water dish.

    Re: Question about hides.

The only time i use hides is IF they show any signs of stress or are babies. they're all without hides right now with no problems.

    Re: Question about hides.

Personaly I like to keep mine starting in 28qt tubs, I give them 2 hides and fill up the tub with stuff. Usually a bunch of newspaper, then I gradually take out stuff as they grow, Untill there is just one hide and water bowl left.

It has worked for me with all the babies I've gotten. So that's what I do. Luckly I haven't had any new comers go off feed and they usualy get to 500g pretty quick anyways.
