    Re: carpet python or boa?

I can think of pros and cons for both but since I breed carpets, I say go with a carpet!

In all seriousness, I think you should do your research and find out which one fits your needs and wants and that you can properly take care of long term. After all, you are the one cleaning up the poop, not us!

    Re: carpet python or boa?

You know they are both REALLY good choices. Both on my wish list.

But I think I like boas just a little more. The only thing thats stopped me personally is that I am having trouble finding good cages and I have a python a and colubrids and Inclusion Body disease scares the pants off me.

    Re: carpet python or boa?

Carpets, nice and slender, don't weigh near as much as boas. But still not always the most comfortable handling(sometimes they like to swing, very rare but they will bite if you don't hold them just right) whereas a boa is much heavier bodied but a little more comfortable with handling. Alot slower moving usually which makes for a slightly easier handling. A bite from either would suck, but a boa even moreso in my opinion. But I think they would be less likely to bite, especially as baby. Baby carpets can be downright nasty for nipping, but they are so small it usually just bounces off with very little if any blood. A baby boa bite is more like a baby bp bite. Bigger head, bigger teeth, bigger bite. But far less likely to bite I think. Could go with a smaller species of boa to compensate for the extra weight(hogg islands are amazing) but even an adult carpet can be a dream to handle as well. It's all what you want, and technically, nothing stopping you from getting the other later on! Best of luck! ~Caylan.S.~

Because this site is for opinions and help dont worry about it. If you dont have any good advice then maybe your shoudnt give any at all...

Now personally I am getting both as well and I have had boas for almost a year now and absolutely love them. They are awesome eaters and every once in a while can be a little pissy but other then that are awesome snakes to have.. The carpet are great too I cant comment to much on that only because I havent had one yet but im excited to test it out.

    Re: carpet python or boa?

I vote carpets.. but then I'm biasesd as I keep them. Then again, everyone's biased, and that's what this thread is about.

    Here's some pros about carpets:
    - slender but can still attain impressive size
    - not as overwhelmingly common as BCIs
    - most subspecies do ridiculously great in captivity with "generic python housing"
    - great feeders
    - fun to handle (not too "sit in your lap" boring, not too racy)
    - one of the most beautiful snakes out there

I agree I have two carpets and one boa and well my roomie is new to snakes and when he does handle the jcps with me right there even trying to tell him what not to do he gets bit frequently where my boa just chills no matter what he does
