you cant see it, but theres dust that comes off of the sand when shifted, and this sand will eventually lead to nasal and respiratory infections in your snake. and i know that people always ask the question "if they're called Sand Boas, shouldn't they be kept on sand?" and the answer is no. in the wild where Sand Boas live, they actually bury themselves in coarse sand, somewhat like sandblasting sand, or the sand you find in Californian deserts. they also bury into the top layers where theres leaf litter and dead plant material that (to a degree) holds moisture when wet creating a humid microclimate.
