How do people become mod?

As a moderator/administrator of several unrelated and related forums I can tell you one policy that most follow; those who ask to become moderators, won't become moderators.

This is not a "make me mod thread"

I will never be a mod trust me LOL

But on the other hand asking what they look at when looking for mods because i would like to see some people get mod who i think deserve it
