Re: Does owning a BP affect your relationship with others?

Ball pythons and reptiles in general are known to be gross and cause problems, only because people are not educated on reptiles. People call me insane for saying the prices of snakes, they say " I wouldent even pay that for a dog!" The only thing we can do is educate them as much as we can, and hope they accept them =D

Perhaps your family is very religious? I think a lot of close mindedness about snakes stems from the fact that a lot of people are very religious, and we all know what the snake represents in the Bible.

My mom is catholic but she isn't outwardly stupid about certain things in the bible. Just the snake in the tree thing.....

I just think a lot of Christians either consciously or subconsciously associate snakes with the devil since the devil appeared in the form of a snake. In some sects of Christianity they explain the snake not having legs by God banishing them to walk; so they had to crawl.

Thats actually very interesting. I dont believe in religion myself, but I've always thought it was interesting to hear about what others believe.

I've not had any issues in relationships. Some people don't like snakes, but he's in my room and no one has to go in there.

Yep, the po' old snake has gotten a bad rep for thousands of years. Particularly when it comes to religious beliefs and the unfortunate metaphoric correlation to snakes you can see the ignorance that has been passed down through generation to generation.

I have one person in particualr at the church I'm at who flat out states that people who keep snakes are quote, "weird". (It's a good thing I wasn't present at the time). That statement right there shows (to me) how ignorant and narrow minded people really are and also how they project their views upon the actual owners of snakes themselves. I would have slammed her with suggesting that she read Proverbs 12:10.
