I just think a lot of Christians either consciously or subconsciously associate snakes with the devil since the devil appeared in the form of a snake. In some sects of Christianity they explain the snake not having legs by God banishing them to walk; so they had to crawl.

Thats actually very interesting. I dont believe in religion myself, but I've always thought it was interesting to hear about what others believe.

I am as far removed from religion as one can get, however I do find it interesting to study why people do the things they do, and usually it stems back to why they believe the things they believe.

My mom cannot understand why I have ball pythons. She constantly asks me what I'll do when they escape and strangle my kids.

I patiently explain to her that balls pythons stay small, are very docile, and the odds of one strangling you are about as long as winning the Powerball Lottery.

She asked me once why I liked them so much, since I talk about them like they are my kids. I told her the truth, they are ideal pets. They are small, don't make noise, aren't messy, are pretty much hypo-allergenic, and best of all, are great stress reducers. She was kind of impressed, I don't think she had thought about all that.

Yep, the po' old snake has gotten a bad rep for thousands of years. Particularly when it comes to religious beliefs and the unfortunate metaphoric correlation to snakes you can see the ignorance that has been passed down through generation to generation.

I have one person in particualr at the church I'm at who flat out states that people who keep snakes are quote, "weird". (It's a good thing I wasn't present at the time). That statement right there shows (to me) how ignorant and narrow minded people really are and also how they project their views upon the actual owners of snakes themselves. I would have slammed her with suggesting that she read Proverbs 12:10.
