Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

I handle mine just enough to keep them tame. As much as being tagged doesn't bother me, it's not a habit I'd like my snakes to learn. :3

i.e., I take them out for about 10 minutes once or twice a week. In the summer, I might take one or two out and let the kids in my neighborhood have a look - it's always good (and fun) to educate them about snakes - but I never keep them out for long, and I make the kids keep their distance and the noise down.

Snakes are not cats, they do not like to be pet or cuddled. Nor are they dogs, they aren't loyal, and they do not like to go for walks. They do not love, and as far as emotions go they have only a few modes... those being eat, drink, poop, sleep, breed, shed, eat. Taking your snake out that often can have adverse effects, and may very well be stressing your little guy out more than if you let him be for most of the week. I understand that you love your snake, as I love all of mine, but you need to take into consideration that your little guy has specific needs and is not a domesticated pet, and giving him a little bit more space might be best for the little guy.

I'm sorry if in ealier posts I was harsh, but you should realize that the things you may imply can anger a lot of people, as I'm sure you have noticed.

Some of you may say that David's reaction was rude, but I think it's to be expected from someone who is insulted, or feeling insulted, by someone else who doesn't know him and is judging him, and all of us, for the way we treat our animals.

Bravo! I'm glad someone got my point. I do feel that if she can't take proper care of her snakes they should be taken away, but the point in being so harsh/rude about it was exactly that! I bow to your greatness in seeing my meaning.

MissLeMew - we are going to do the same thing with ours in the summer: take them out so the neighborhood kids can see them. Then we can educate them, and I firmly believe proper reptile education is so important!

David - you express your passions the same way I do.

I totally believe everyone should stand up for what they believe in, but in the right way. I understand Arsinoe is standing up for her beliefs, and for that, I respect her. However, I believe she's going about it the wrong way.

I got your point and acknowledged that I got your point. I still think it was un-necessarily harsh.

Unfortunatly I have a hard time actually implementing that idea. Yes it was very harsh, but I still stand by what I said.
