Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

"tupperware" you're on some kind of campaign, huh?

anyway, I've got mine in tubs and they come out on an alternating schedule, usually one or two a day. They get about as much attention as they can stand. I took them out much, MUCH less when they were in tanks.

Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

Couple times a week. Most of my adults are breeding right now, so I don't handle them much at all.

The babies get handled depending on how old they are, how often they eat and if they can handle the stress of being handled once every two days.

    Also, tubs/racks, not Tupperware.

Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

Why are you making posts singling out people using tubs or tanks. It does not matter what the hell you use. If it benefits both and keeps the snake healthy then use what works.

For one im sure many hear think the same, are tired of seeing posts saying were begin cruel keeping our snakes in tubs cause we dont care for our animals like someone that keeps them in tank.

On a side note handling should be dont conservatively, its a privilege to be able to hold them not a requirement.

Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

    Thank you Rich.

These are NOT social animals. The do NOT "like" being held. They tolerate it.

It seems like all of these threads you are making are trying to make people who use tubs look bad. Instead, you are just making yourself look bad. Just because I keep my snakes in tubs doesn't mean I don't care about them or don't treat them like "pets". I love all of my snakes. They all have names and they all have distinct personalities. Some are very good with moderate handling. Some don't like to be handled at all.

Trying to make a correlation between what kind of enclosure you use and how often you handle your animals is silly. I handle each of my snakes about once a week each and I keep them all in tubs. They are all happy and healthy and THAT is what matters.

The type of enclosure you use does not. It does not dictate whether or not you are a good owner. I personally think that tubs are far superior to any "habitat" for ball pythons. I would not say this for other species though. For ball pythons specifically, tubs are fantastic.

One day you will see the light. Or maybe you won't. :/

Re: How Often Do You Handle Your Snakes?

I take them out once or twice a week. Most of the time they just keep moving until they find a hiding place which tells, me they would rather hide anyway. And tubs a great unless you cram your sankes in there. If they have enough room it is fine.

On your high horse again ic.....

@ Arsinoe = Because snakes lack a limbic system they are physically unable to recognize feelings like love. Your snake does not love you, nor does it like to be handled by you twice a day for an hour at a time, it is not disappointed if you don't have time for it. In all actuality it is less stressed and happier when you leave it alone, handling a snake for an hour or two a day is only going to stress it out..... In case I didn't make my underlying implication clear..... YOU ARE A BAD PET OWNER BECAUSE YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE NEEDS OF YOUR ANIMAL AND ALL OF YOUR ANIMALS SHOULD BE TAKEN AWAY UNTIL YOU CAN LEARN TO PROPERLY CARE FOR THEM!!!!!

... P.S. How's it feel to be treated like an inferior because of how you treat your animals?

    David,

While I completely understand your frustrations reading her posts, and the fact that you were trying to make a point, the last bit in all caps really was un-necessarily harsh.
