i think this will work for...

hey everyone, i went to HD yesterday looking for some vermiculite and of course they did not have it or just didn't know where it was at but anyway i was looking around and found a plastic 5 shelf rack that measures 36"W by 24" D, now if i'm correct that is perfect for a 41 qt sterilite tub for the big females. now it would need ecuaboard and cutting the legs down to size but other than that i think its perfect, oh yeah it is $44.99, lightweight and i believe it can hold up to 1000 lbs, WOW can't beat that.

I have not purchased it yet since i'm concentrating on a DIY incubator and a small hatchling rack(plastic shelf) right now but i threw it out there just in case anyone is thinking of going that route but i would definitely consider it for the price and weight, my advice would be to try and fit a 41qt tub in the sample thats already build in the store to get a good idea. f4n70m if you do build it please post pics.

yep, i can't remember who right now but the idea was shared with Justin K. thats the set-up i'm going to follow for the hatcling rack and use the same idea for the 41 qt rack. basically just measure and cut the tubs, add some ecuaboard, flexwatt, t-stat and call it the day...LOL

Only thing I would look out for is the distance between the poles. The measurements are from the outside and the room on the shelf is about 4" less because of the poles. So your looking at something more like 32" x 24". Which is about 2" too small.....

I was thinking the same thing about a week ago when I found a type of shelf that was 36" x 18". Grab a tape measure next time your in there and measure the distance between to see how much room you'll have.

On a side note that size should fit too of the smaller 32qt tubs side by side.

thank you badmagic, that's the one. garweft you are right, that's why i meantioned to make sure to try and fit a 41 qt tub in the store sample just in case but thank you for posting your measurements, that helped out alot. Like you said, it doesn't sound bad for 32qt's, just gotta measure. hopefully this will help someone save a couple of $$ and spend it on more bp's...LOL

Re: i think this will work for...

I was getting a shower today and thinking about picking up 2 of these to make a 9 high 2 wide 32qt rack. I was thinking how it would have been great if the big tubs would fit in sideways so you could make a 9 high cb70 or sterilite 41qt rack.

Then it hit me..... The 18" deep ones would never work, but the 24" deep ones might since you can turn them sideways and more than likely slide the tub between the poles on the 24" side longways. Even taking 4" off from the poles your looking at a 20" or so opening. I am going to go tomorrow to take some measurements and might have to give this one a go.

Still need to think about what to put on the shelf surface since neither side is solid.... Maybe shower surround?
