Ambient Temps?

So, from what I've read on here, having your UTH, heat tape, flexwatt, etc. heated at the right temps is just enough heat for your BP to not get an RI.

Well, all my BPs are at their correct temps. But, what about the ambient temp? Wouldn't that need to be warm enough for BPs to not get an RI? I wouldn't imagine only a UTH is enough for a BP not to get sick from incorrect temps.

During the Winter my temps for ambient get a bit cool, but in the Summer they rise just where I want them to be. I haven't noticed any RIs yet (knock on wood), but my ambient does get a bit cool.

Would this have any effect on the BP or is a UTH actually enough heat?

I use a space heater controlled with a Johnson t-stat to keep the whole room around 81F. In a few weeks, when the outside temps get into the high 80's and I need to turn the a/c on, then I just close the vent for the snake room and use fans...

I provide my snakes with a hot spot of 92-93*. The ambient temps in my room are a little bit low (mid to low 70's) which makes my ambient temp in the snakes tubs around 75*+.

I have never had any issues with respiratory infections. I think when we are talking about low temps causing RI's, we are talking about way below 70* for long periods of time. Many times, with no other source of heat.

No, sometimes temps under 75F ambient can lead to RIs. Some individual snakes will handle it better than others, too.

If your cage temps are consistantly below 80F during the day, consider a radiant heat panel.

what are some other ways to get the coolside temps up other than using a space heater?

Lamps, second UTH, radiant heat panel, insulating the tank.

It really depends on your climate which method will be most effective.

space heater in the colder months keeps the room at 80 and summer keeps it at around the same temp since i have a dual exhaust fan.

Putting a second uth on the cool side and covering with foam board should do it but if you have multiple snakes, a space heater may be better! It's up to you which way you want to go!

space heater on the lowest setting keeps my room 80 degrees int he with and thats with the house thermostat set at 70. I just have the space heater plugged in and on the lowest setting. been doing this for a few years now with no problems whats so ever.

hmm im thinking second uth for coolside connected to a dimmer (which is then connected to a tstat) Do you guys think this is the most economical way? i live in los angeles.. Oh and reason why im avoiding a space heater is due to the lack of a " snake room"

p.s. the snakes will be in tubs
