    Male Bahviour While Copulating

    Hi All

Was wondering if any of you notice a change in the general behaviour of your males when they are in the act of copulation.

Reason I'm asking is that I 'think' my male spider is getting busy with my normal female. Problem is that their tails are crossed but are tucked under a mass of coils so I can't get a good view of the 'goings on' under there.

This is my first breeding attempt. I have cooled temps down over the past 2 months and then introduced the spider last night. This morning I took this picture

A few moments ago I checked on the pair and they are still tied up. I tried to move the Spider a bit so I can get a good look under there. He did something that he had not done before, which was to hiss and push my hand away with his coils.

So, do any of you have a similar change in normal behaviour with your males while they are 'in the act'.

I'm trying to determine if copulation is taking pace without me interfering too much. I'm sure though that in time I'll catch the view I need, just looking for any thoughts from y'all.

    Cheers

Mine have never acted any differently but I suppose if I started prodding him around while his 'manhood' was in such a delicate position I imagine he'd probably hiss too. It's obvious they're on the right track if not already there in terms of locking. It will happen with or without you observing it firsthand. If you upset them by moving them while they're locked you run the risk of injuring the male. Just leave them alone.

He seems to know what he's doing just let him do it, the more they get interupted the more he stalls.
Just think if you were trying to get busy and somebody came in poking and messing with you you'd be fairly pissed too I'm sure

I would not move them around when they are locked up you might damage the males junk. Just leave them alone it looks like he has it all figured out.

Something prodding him while he's in that position can't be good, so I'm not surprised he gave you a hiss. If you were a threat, he's in no position to make a fast getaway--if you were another male, he's got to tell you to find your own. lol

    Re: Male Bahviour While Copulating

    Hey all

    Thanks for the replies.

For the record.... I don't intend to prod and poke and shuffle the loving couple to the n'th degree..... this was my first 'lock' so was a bit excited... but rationality has now taken back control.....

Was just curious if others had seen a change in their males..... I know if i was forced to pull out early I'd be pissed....

OH Yeah.... I checked on 'em last night and can confirm a lock, so I'm stoked....

This morning they had separated so I put the Spider back in his cage and will re-introduce him the female on mon/tues....
