Stylish and Safe Water Dishes
This reply got lost in another thread where a member doesn't water his snake but when he wants to cause it tips over the stainless steel bowls. And he won't use crocks cause of chemical leach. I want those who want a creative and estetically nice alternative to see this.....

I have a solution to your problem. And it's been approved by the most spoiled snake ever invented. Pressed or cut glass bowls. They come in all sizes. I use the big serving size for my fur family. You can usually find these in thrift stores with or without the sterling plated rim. You must pick something with a completely flat bottom. Any curvature or legs will tip over. If you can't find any at the thrift stores. Maybe go to a Dollar Store and look for a cut glass ashtray. They are heavy shallow and wide and good for a small snake.
All the etching is on the outside so you can easily clean out the inside with a wipe of a paper towel. And since it is substantial it's very unlikely you would drop it.
Also make sure it's not leaded glas. It can leach into the water. They usually are heavier and have very sharp cut facets and will give a musical like 'tink' when you tap it with something metal. Not a 'thunk' like with regular glass.
Please get something for you snake. How would you like to want a drink and not have anything except when scheduled by someone else.
Here's some examples

I would have never thought of that....thats a good idea and I have a couple of bowls like that. I switched to a dog food water dish for smaller dogs...it has a lip around the bottom with rubber so no sliding or tipping....but I like your idea better...its more "eye friendly".

i would not be interested in scraping poops out of all those crazy crevices. I'd find smooth, dishwasher safe glass bowls that are heavier to use.

Yeah see its not the fact that the inside is smooth, the inside only gets a little slimey. Its when you snake does laps around his tub while pooping, then you have poop all in the little crevases and cracks. I had the problem of trying to find the perfect bowls and i went with the VO-Toys tan and blue clay dishes that everyone uses. They never tip over and hold a lot of water and they don't look bad either. Better than the huge dog bowls i have with dog bones all over it!

My thoughts exactly.
My snakes ALWAYS manage to poop on or in the water bowl. ugh..
OP: I think that person was just one specific case of someone who doesn't like to use ceramic bowls. I think the general consensus is that if you have a lot of tipped water bowls, go with ceramic croc dishes.

do you guys think that ashtrays from a dollarstore would work out ok. As far as functionality I think they would be fine, but they are painted white and they are plastic. I just dont want any chemicals getting into the water and harming my snakes...Or maybe the plastic is just white...idk...
