Rescued Leopard Gecko!

Hi,
My names steven, im actually a ball python person but i work at a pet store.. I know i know no one likes pet stores lol but its a good college job. Anyway to my story.. A lady brought in a Leopard gecko that she said she took from her friends who hadnt fed her for months. She said it looks to be blind and as i look at it it does. Idk if it is actually blind or if its eyes are sitting almost completley closed because of dehydration and being sick from no food. I brought it home because i knew if it stayed at the pet store it would end up dieing. I have it in a 20 gallon the set up is all find according to the research i have done on here ( like i said im a BP person) I havent seen it feed yet ive got crickets in the tank with it, and i have been trying to feed with hemos every day with no luck. Any suggestions on how to bring the Leo back. Ive thought possible of blending some crickets and tube feeding but not sure if its at that point yet. Any advice would be great thanks!

sounds like your on the right track sadly it may just be too late. Try a bowl of meal worms or wax worms. wax worms may help to plump her up a little. Good luck and please update on her when possible.

What substrate is/was it on?

I would try to give it a soak too to get it re-hydrated asap. Then you can try to feed a nutritional slurry by putting some on the nose and they'll lap it off.

Good news.. Its still fully blind but one eye has opened back up its slightly responsive he has started feeding and plumping up. I tong feed him crickets and i gave him a good soak. Ill get pictures on asap. Thanks for the responses.

Hopefully you can bring the little guy back. I am watching my leo's now and I'm still fascinated while watching them eat. Some people think they are called 'leopard' geckos because a normal is yellow with spots. Watch them hunt and then you'll know why they are called 'leopard'

Do the soak. Does it seem to have bowed legs? You can put some calcium on it's nose and it should lick it up. Also try the worms as suggested. Leo's generally only eat things they can see move. If it can't see then presenting it with something in front of it's face may not help.

They have eye caps just like snakes. Do the eyes look bulging? Make sure you keep it on paper towel at this point. No bedding or sand. Fresh water will be key at this point also.

Thanks for all the suggestions.. And ya its really wierd hes starting to catch crickets on his own which is making me believe that he can partially see. Either that or hes getting really lucky. He is still taking crickets from the hemos pretty much have to put them right on his nose though. I put some calcium on its nose and just sat a bowl of meal worms in. He seems to be comming back well and as far as i can tell his legs dont look bowed and he seems to be manouvering around his enclosure well. (probably more so by feel then by sight. So far so good though thanks to the helpful advice thanks much guys!
