Re: SnakesKin on Animal Planet
Not a bad show at all!! This is the first time in a long while that i have seen AP put out a show that portrayed snakes in a positive light!
So the guy is no Steve Irwin - but he IS one of us, a snake lover. We need to support this show!

I thought it was really well done - with education, rather than fear-mongoring.
The fact that they got the southern most people with fairly thick southern accents. In short most of the information is good and the people themselves and their cause is good, but the show presents it almost in a "rednecky" kind of way that I can see people immediately ignoring the "educational" aspects of this show.
I'm just glad there isn't a 3rd party narrator adding more to it...
That and the family bickering and "reality show" feel bugs me.

i think the show is fine, dudes also a cop so maybe that will set more people at ease. its t.v. so they will need ratings so the bickering and such will draw in a broader audience. maybe viewers that normally dont have a clue about reptiles will think twice and take in some knowledge.

I don't think the southern "redneck" approach hurts the show, as long as the information is correct. As for the "reality show" feel, that should draw the outside viewers to the show. I kinda thought it added some humor. I don't like the "silliness" of Snakebytes, but Brian does a good job and I will tollerate the silliness to get to the informative parts. The silly parts probably help draw a larger crowd watching.

He had to borrow a pillow case and a garden sprayer to capture the snake.
How does he have a business but no snakebag or a hook?

Thing is I know that most people hear that accent and instantly stereotype them and that's the end of it. Doesn't help that every time the people were saying "He's crazy" they showed them saying that. People at home are going to be saying that as is, don't really need to see the people actually in the show to say it as well.
That said I don't think the guy in the show is doing anything wrong, I'm sure he's just trying to be as informative as he can be, but networks just have to put their spin on everything.

Re: SnakesKin on Animal Planet
I think it was well done. The people saying "He's crazy!" also allowed that he knew what he was doing and allowed him to come back and place harmless snakes.. so to me, they started out as a typical viewer might be(anti-snake) and ended up understanding that snakes can be benificial.
What's wrong with a southern accent? Would you prefer a nasal Bostonian accent? Maybe a New York accent?
The only problem I saw was them showing the toddler with snakes a lot.. which *I* think is fine.. but some viewers are NO DOUBT ranting about how they should have their kids taken away. If I wanted to bother checking the forums, I'll bet there's a lot of that going on.

I would prefer NO accent. Southerns, especially deep Southerns carry stereotypes about not being the brightest of the bunch. I'm not saying he's stupid or anything, just saying a uneducated viewer is already going to attach a certain stereotype to him.
I've spent my entire life in the south but have been to different countries/parts of the US, people with Southern Accents catch a certain prejudice.
