    PVC thickness?

If I want to buy some PVC sheets to make a rack, can I get away with 6mm thickness? I'm guessing 3mm is out of the question. The 10mm is double the price of the 6mm so I was wondering if it would do.

Generally a half inch is recommended, which even the 10mm falls short of...In the end it's your call, but the thicker, the more stable and the more weight it can carry.

My Lowes can special order sheets of the 1/2 inch thickness for $105 each, but can't cut it for me because they don't have the right blade on their saw. What I'm wondering is what type of blade is needed then??

i would recommend 1/2" as you want stability and long life.3/8" might work on a short span but that's rolling the dice IMO.

another thing to consider is cost, once you figure out the cost and your time is it going to be that much less expensive? mfg's buy sheets of PVC at volume wholesale prices not a few sheets at retail.something to think about before ordering.have fun!

They never gave me a product number. I basically went in and asked the manager if they could order it since they didn't normally carry it. He emailed his superiors and they emailed me back the next day confirming the size I requested and the price per sheet. I haven't ordered it yet but plan to within the next month. I would recommend talkingg to the manager and asking him/her the same question

Also remember -- the thinner the material, the greater the chance you might miss a shelf when putting screws in. That being said, I think boaphile racks are made out of 1/4" pvc.
