Why are female morphs more expensive than male morphs?

It seems like all female morphs are more expensive than male morphs.
Sorry if this sounds like a noob question but I just hopped in to breeding.

You would think that all the males would be more then the females due to the fact you can breed a male morph to 10normal females in a season compared to breeding the female morph only once a year.

I'm with you on the new to breeding thing, the price makes no sense to me but oh well..

Re: Why are female morphs more expensive than male morphs?

Females are the ones who produce the eggs, if you breed, you normally have many females to produce more clutches, you don't need many males to circulate around the females. So females normally cost more.

UNLESS it's a new morph, and then males who grow up to breeding age faster than females start to cost far more than a female who'll take three years to grow.

It's all in the supply and demand.

Re: Why are female morphs more expensive than male morphs?

Because females are worth more. You can breed one male to several females, therefor you really only need one male.

If you had 5 males and 1 female you would only get 1 clutch, on the other hand, if you had 1 male and 5 females you would get 5 clutches. Make sense?

But you only ever need to buy one male from a breeder, where you have to keep coming back for females

Re: Why are female morphs more expensive than male morphs?

Also, breeders know the value of a female, and often hold back many of the females that they produce to be future breeders - most of us are our own #1 customer!

So, while we're holding back our females for ourselves, there are less females available for those wanting them.
