Taking my snake to a reptile show to confirm gender

I am going to take my BP to the Wheaton Illinois reptile show on April 18th. It's the "Scott Smith All Animal Expo".

    I was wondering a few questions -

    1. Am I allowed to bring my BP into the event?

    2. Will people from booths pop my snake for me to let me know if its really what I thought it was when I purchased it?

    3. Whats the best way to transport my snake and make sure he is confortable? It will be about a 35-40 minute drive to get there. I don't want to bring him if it will be a problem.

I want to take him just to have someone confirm its sex for me.

    Thanks

Hey there! I actually work at that show, so I will be there that day. You are allowed to bring your snake into the show, they will give you a sticker so they know you are not stealing anything.

There are a few vendors there that will definatly do it for you.

When I bring my snakes, i usually put them in a decent sized pillow case then in a sterilite tub.

    1) Depends on the show. Some promoters let you bring in outside animals, others don't. Contact the show promoter to find out.

    2) Some may, some may choose not to.

    3) A pillowcase works fine.

I believe expos won't allow you to bring in your reptiles or animals because they can spread a disease or external parasites to the vendor's snakes. Even though the snake may be extremely healthy I don't think they'll allow the snake to be brought in the show.

    2. Will people from booths pop my snake for me to let me know if its really what I thought it was when I purchased it?
Possibly, just depends. Some people probably won't do it, but others might. If you are going in to see someone that will pop it for you then sure. Though, you can make the person come outside in front of the expo and pop the snake to confirm the gender.

    3. Whats the best way to transport my snake and make sure he is confortable? It will be about a 35-40 minute drive to get there. I don't want to bring him if it will be a problem.
I suggest a plastic tub or a pillow case. I like pillow cases a lot more, but if you aren't willing to stick your snake in a pillow case then a plastic tub is the way to go

Scott is normally pretty good about you bringing in your snakes, if the snake is larger and you are carrying it around outside the bag always control it. Say If I was holding my 7ft boa and her head was all over the place trying to get away from me I'd get yelled at. Haha.

I know a couple vendors that are really cool about probing snakes for you, you could even meet me at the show and I could help you out

awesome! thanks for the quick reply. Yeah my snake is only about 14 inches long, 130 grams. Would I just be able to carry it in with me without a tub or pillow case?

EDIT - Of course for the drive over, I would keep it in a tub though.

Your welcome (: Depending on the weather, either way I would still keep it in a pillow case even if it is warm. If it's pretty cold i'd put it in a tub as well. I'll have a table that weekend with a friend of mine.

Hey, where do you work at the show? I am there almost every month or so. I haven't seen you! We should have a mini bp.net meet
