i think almost everyone has lidless racks. I don't even think the professionally made racks ever come with lids. Check out animal plastics and boaphile racks to get an idea of how they do it.
Basically, each shelf is just tall enough to accommodate the tub and a 1/8"-1/4" air gap. It would be a major pain in the butt to take out each tub and take off the lid every time i needed to get in the enclosure.
