Not Eating, getting worried
hi my BP has not eaten in about 4 weeks, im getting kind of worried, i cant tell if shes about to shed or not? i will admit i have a problem with keeping humidity in her enclosure. maybe someone can help me out, shes in a 25G tank with cypress mulch for a bedding, i mist her bedding once before i go to work and throw a wet towel ontop of her screen. by the time im home from work its at 20%. if i were to get a UTH, would that help hold humidity? ive heard lights just suck the humidity right out of a tank

Re: Not Eating, getting worried
I had to add a lamp to decrease my humidity . Right now Ive got a 40 gallon with a 65watt bulb and a UTH. Add coconut husk substrates and you've got a 80% humidity setup. (80% might be too high)
Dont know much about mulch, but I've had my coco husk for a week now and its still damp, haven't sprayed it once.
But I dont think mulch or coco is good for bedding (hide substrates) as it might rot there belly's over a long period of time.

Well, your substrate should never be damp for more than a day...
Ara, you are correct, the lamps are what is decreasing your humidity. My best suggestion is to get a reptile thermostat and a UTH and ditch one or both of the lamps. You will never have an issue with humidity after that.
How are you measuring humidity? What kind of hygrometer? If it isn't digital, I recommend getting a digital one so you can get a more accurate reading. Those dial ones don't really work.
If your snake is an adult, 4 weeks is not a long time to go without eating. Has this snake eaten for you at all yet?

a UTH will certainly help the situation. may not be the only change needed, but it will definitely help.

Re: Not Eating, getting worried
A UTH isn't gonna hurt that's for sure. You may be able to use a lower watt bulb with one.... then the light won't dry your tank out so fast. All of this may not help your problem though. It's what Ball Pythons do, you may just need to wait it out until it eats. This could take months....sorry.
