Feeders subtrate question

Ok so I have a eat breeding rack and the subtrate I have them in is pine. I kno I absolutly do not use that as the balls subtrate. Is it ok to still that subtrate for my feeders and it won't affect my snakes or should I change it. I just started the rack 2 days ago so I havnt fed anything off yet. Please help I don't want to risk my snakes health

I use pine occasionally for my rats, and it's fine. Some will say that it isn't, but it works for me. I suggest pine pellets though over shaved pine.

Those of you that do breed your feeders what type of substrate are you using then?

Also I have an interesting question for everyone....

We are considering breeding.....in the long run it will be cheaper for us. I am a little on the fence with the whole ASF as they tend to be pretty agressive. We live in AZ...pretty much out in the elements. We were thinking about starting a colony of mice in the garage. My concern is since we are out here with rattle snakes....do you think the smell in our garage will draw more snakes to our house??

I use pine shavings for my rats ad I have had NO problems at all.

Ok thanks for the help i was worried about the pine. and as for the rattle snakes i think it may. lol im in il so i dnt really kno but the smell mite draw them.

We have a large rodent farm and the snakes do come in. At least we have lots of bull snakes, I have yet to find a rattler. We also have a lot of feral cats that hang around outside. I think last year they kept the snakes down some since I didn't see so many.

Substrate we use is pine, aspen, and the pellets.

I use pine pelleter by equifresh. It's amazing. No mouse smell at all.
