New pick up: Asian Vine Snake
Went into East Bay Vivarium today to buy a bunch of frozen rats, pinkies, etc. Did my usual walk through to see what all snakes they had in the store that were new and came across a bunch of new Asian Vine Snakes (Ahaetulla prasina). BEAUTIFUL little guys. Wild keyhole shaped horizontal pupils, wickely thin and delicate yet quite long (the size of a pencil, ~3 feet or so). The price was right, and I couldn't help but pick one up. Without further ado...

Wow, what a cool looking animal. I don't know much about these but I seem same or siumlar in my pet store. Are the care requirements much different than pythons?

Pretty flighty little guy, and can just glide right through your fingers. So you gotta have a good hold on them sometimes. Seems pretty mild tempered and would rather run than try and bite. Although it did take one swipe at me today. But I would expect as much, I'm sure he is pretty stressed. Gonna let him chill is his new enclosure for about a week or so before I try doing any feeding or anything.

Re: New pick up: Asian Vine Snake
Last time I saw the Prasina in the EBV they were feeding them anoles.
Have they gotten these guys on rodents? If not, PM me, there's a guy in Concord that deals in F/T anoles............

Great pictures! I really love asian vine snakes. They have such an elegant look to them.
I'm curious about how he feeds as well. I always wanted to get one of those guys but their tendency to go for anoles always kept me away.

I love these snakes but just couldn't feed anoles. (I know, thats what they eat, but anoles are so cute . . .) If someone has f/t anoles, that would probably make this a much more popular snake. That was the only thing holding me back anyway
Oh and congrats on the new little guy. He's gorgeous
