Feed or keep??
I had my first litter casualty...I had a dumbo birth around 10 babies all were eaten and either still born or just eaten...She's a chewer too...Should I give her another chance or feed her off? She ate through one of my cement tubs and started chewing on the birthing tub. What would you all do??

Re: Feed or keep??
What food are you feeding. Usually rats will eat the young when they are mal nourished and or very stressed.

I'm feeding Mazuri and Labdiet...Depending which I have...They have a generous supply and fresh water daily...This is the first casualty litter of the last 20 females that gave birth...But this is have been a strong willed rat from the beginning...However her last litter was 15 and then had 3 weeks recoup time before this past disaster litter...

Then leave her be and wait till next litter. This one may of put too much on her body and she needed to nutrients, there for ate her babies

Re: Feed or keep??
So he had a huge litter before and didn't eat them? I would give her another chance. It might have been diet, or too hot/cold. I know some people hate to feed dog food and others really believe in it, so you'll have to decide. I give all my females dog food and Mazuri when they are close to giving birth and while nursing. People who are against it say it's bad because dog food is protein, but apparently they haven't read the ingredients list lately, it's all grains unless you buy the $50+ holistic brands, and even then it's mostly grains.

Re: Feed or keep??
If she is chewing through the tubs I would feed her off she will teach others to chew through the tubs.

Re: Feed or keep??
I think the combination of the bad litter & the chewing would make me decide to feed her off.

Re: Feed or keep??
I have no patience for chewers. If they chewed out once they will most likely keep doing it and like already said, will teach others to do it as well.

Re: Feed or keep??
I don't tolerate chewers unless they are something very cool that I need for a breeding project.
