    ummmm IOWA????

    You know i didn't even bother looking up to see what the laws are in Iowa for keeping reptiles.. before i got my bps lol... i started thinking about this today... and i looked it up on Google but couldn't really find anything.. but i just kinda skimmed through stuff.. went to a couple links just to find a bunch more links with more links .. so i gave up on that..

    does anyone know of any laws in iowa?? for snakes anything from a ball bp to a lets say retic???

    or is there anything on any other reptile?

    I was down in Iowa for a reptile show recently.

    Pythons and colubrids of all shapes and varieties were for sale, but I didn't see any venomous snakes (even hoggies).

    Try to find your city ordinance, I live in Altoona wich is Polk county, same as Des Moines...but in Des Moines you cant have a constricting over 6 feet in length, but here in Altoona I can have any snake I want as long as its non venomous. But there is a clause to snakes over 6 feet....you have 2 hours to call the police if it gets loose.
    Bummer..I cant have an Elephant or a Badger ROFL

    You should be able to do a search for your city ordinance and find something like this..... Because even if state law says nothing about large snakes your city might.

    DANGEROUS AND VICIOUS ANIMALS
    57.01 Definitions
    57.06 Keeping of Vicious Animals Prohibited
    57.02 Running at Large Prohibited
    57.07 Seizure, Impoundment and Disposition of Vicious
    57.03 Keeping of Dangerous Animals Prohibited

    57.04 Additional Exceptions by Permission of Council
    57.08 Vicious Dogs
    57.05 Seizure, Impoundment and Disposition of Dangerous
    Animals
    57.01 DEFINITIONS. For use in this chapter, the following terms are defined:
    1. “Animal” means every wild, tame or domestic member of the animal kingdom, which is a non-human vertebrate.
    2. “Dangerous animal” means
    A. Any animal which is not naturally tame or gentle, and which is of a wild nature or disposition, and which is capable of killing, inflicting serious injury upon or causing disease among human beings or domestic animals and having known tendencies as a species to do so;
    B. Any animal declared to be dangerous by the Council or its designee; and
    C. The following animals, which are deemed to be dangerous animals per se:
    (1) Wolves and coyotes;
    (2) Badgers, wolverines, weasels, mink and other Mustelids (except ferrets);
    (3) Bears;
    (4) All apes (including chimpanzees), baboons and macaques;
    (5) Monkeys, except the squirrel monkey, female spider monkey and female woolly monkey;
    (6) Elephants;
    (7) Wild boar;
    (8) Black widow spiders and scorpions;
    (9) Snakes that are naturally venomous or poisonous;
    (10) All cats, except domestic cats (Carnivora of the family Felidae including but not limited to lions, cougars, tigers, jaguars, leopards, lynx, bobcats, etc.);
    (11) Raccoons, opossums and skunks;
    3. “Dog” means members of the canine species, male or female, whether altered or not.

    While constricting snakes exceeding six feet in length and lizards exceeding two feet in length are not declared by this chapter to be dangerous per se, the owners of such animals shall, within two hours of knowledge of the possibility of such an animal being at large within the City, so notify the Police Department.
