    Finally eating!

So i got my snake from an expo on sunday march 21st, i tried feeding him thursday the 25th and he wouldnt even strike. I tried feeding him again last night and i covered the box and i heard a sound and when i checked the mouse was a little torn up so im assuming he struck. Both times i tried feeding were with f/t. This afternoon i put in a live rat pup, and within 20 mins he struck it and coiled around it. I'm glad to finally see that he is eating but i still want to know if there is any possibility of wheening him off of live to f/t. The breeder i got him from said they have been feeding live.

You can deffinetly make the switch to F/T. Alot of breeders feed live first because they breed their own rats so they have live to begin with. Its also more enticing usually, so there is a better chance for a new hatchling to eat. Give your bp a week or two without feeding then offer a F/T item. It should be warmed up to body temperature and with a little jiggling of the tongs, your bp should take it and eat it just as if it was live.

    Re: Finally eating!

I did exactly what redstorm suggested. The BP I got was previously fed live. This was the second snake I had to convert though so I already knew to let it wait a little longer for food. He also wasn't to smart about eating. I had to let him strike it three times before he would actually eat it. The third time he got it's head and sucked it down.
