Mineral oil burn?
My BP had alot of mites on him, I mean ALOT, and the vet that i was taking him to during when he had RI told me to just kinda massage him with mineral oil to drown our the mites, I did so, but i became worried cause of his heat lamps, I figure if I rub my self with oil lol and site directly under the sun i will burn pretty fast, after realizing that i took him out and tried to get as much of the oil off as possible, I noticed about three days later that the scales on his spine area had lightened and he had begain to shed but he shed individual scales and they still had some color to them, anyone know whats the cause of that? <- loltaz lol

Re: Mineral oil burn?
Oil is known to loosen up scale to the point where they will fall off, oil is really not recommended as far as mite treatment goes.
Drowning mites regardless of the method does not solve the problem in the long run, it will not take care of the eggs that have been laid and is only a quick fix that does not work in the long run.
2 advices from you
1# change vet
2# Get some PAM (provent a mite) or Black night to completely eradicate your mite problem, it will get rid of mite at all stages of development.
Note: I wonder if your vet would recommend soaking a dog in oil to get rid of fleas

I doubt that the mites are gone..there are probably eggs somewhere waiting to hatch and begin the cycle again.
I would be prepared with the suggestions offered.

The mites probably arnt gone, they come in waves, there pretty tough to get rid of. Anyways the oil thing sounds pretty dumb and yes i suggest switching vets also. Use P-A-M.

Sometimes it can be a month..
But oil doesn't kill mites, it drowns them.. so any that didn't come in contact with the oil did not die, including all of the eggs that are unaffected.
What substrate do you have the snake on? It should be on paper towels or plain newspaper during a mite infestation or you won't be able to tell if they're even there anymore.
Also, the population was probably lowered by that occurrence, and the juveniles aren't big enough for you to see them yet.

Well, bravo and good luck. I for one am happy to hear that you are mite free, and I will not be expecting to see any more posts here about a mite problem..right?
