Snakes and Lasers
So I was using my temp gun tonight checking the temperatures as usual. Normally I also have my snake around my neck or roaming around somewhere while I am checking everything, changing water, etc.
Anyways I put him back in then went to check my temperatures with my temp gun that has a laser to see where your aiming. My snake started going crazy, almost like he was in feeding mode. Every where I moved the laser he would try to follow it. I didn't do it to long because I was sure if this was bad for him.
What do you guys think about doing this? Fun way to interact with your snake or is it cruel to him? I don't wanna be mean to my snake!

Re: Snakes and Lasers
I had the same thing happen with one of my axanthic males. Sort of reminded me how cats chase lasers and try to attack them (though he didn't strike or anything, it just seemed to excite him).

Re: Snakes and Lasers
Well, snakes only really get "excited" when they go into feeding mode or if they are stressed. Personally, I would avoid any unnecessary feeding mode situations if it is not eating day. Cats play, snakes don't.

Re: Snakes and Lasers
Others have also had this happen. I tried but got no reaction from mine.
Check out the video in this thread.

Excited doesn't necessarily mean the emotion a human feels. I never implied the snake was "playing" either. I wasn't purposely shining the laser in the tub to provoke a response. I merely noticed a response when the laser reflected through the tub (I use clear tubs, and the laser reflects off of those and off of the heat tape in my rack).
