wild little ball

Hi,

I never having experience with little ball before and I just got new (CB) baby pastel ball 2 days ago.

He ate very well ... 2 baby mouse yesterday.

I got a little bit problem with handling him. He always looks frightened when I tried to handle like making ball or run away. yesterday he also almost bite me hahahahaha ...
so wild not like other ball that I have.

my question, is it normal for baby ball to behave like that ? how to tame this little kid .... I'm just worried if he got stress. Should I handle him everyday ? or just let him on his cage all the time for few days.

2 days is way to early to hold a new bp.let him settle in for a good week or two ...also let him rest for a day or two after feeding...Good luck.

First off, after purchasing a new ball python or any snake always let it settle in for at least a week. So don't handle or touch him, change his water that is about it and check temps. Very young ball pythons can be nervous at first when it comes to being handled, hense, they will curl up in a ball in your hands and stay there. I wouldn't handle him everyday, maybe every other day take him out for 10 or 15 minutes and put him on your lap or just hold him in your hands.

If he is in a ball, don't try to pull him apart you want him to learn to feel comfortable and not afriad. So let him be and let him loosen up and explore ON you, don't be moving him/her around all over the place. After awhile, he shouldn't ball up on you as much.

Starting now, leave him alone for one week. No handling, no feeding.

In one week, offer him an APPROPRIATELY sized meal. Pinkie mice are too small. He should be eating at least hoppers or small adult mice. Perhaps start with a hopper for 2-3 weeks and then move to adult mice.

After you have fed him, wait at least 48 hours before handling him. It is very crucial that you do NOT handle him after feeding as it could cause him to regurgitate his meal. Let him have some time to digest.

Don't handle him too much. 10-15 minutes a few times a week is good to start. You want him to get used to you, not to "tame" him. Once he gets used to you and doesn't read you as a threat he won't be so scared.
