BCI / BCC size question
Mainly wondering what the average sizes are for BCC males, and BCI females. The next snake I wanna get is like something in between small and huge... (a boa) Maybe around 6-8 feet? Would it be better to get a female BCI or male BCC? Or possibly a female BCC??? Depending on how big males can get...

Re: BCI / BCC size question
Hi there,
You can find a wonderful care-sheet with answers to several of your questions here: http://www.ball-pythons.net/modules/...warticle&id=13
I hope that helps!

I figure its more reliable asking someone who probably knows then looking at 10 different care sheets on google with all different sizes listed (its actually hard to find BCC sizes too, Ive only found people asking what the diff is)

That's a pretty big female BCC. I like body shots of them being handled so you really get an idea of what kind of size you're looking at. I think that pic is pretty darn good at giving you an idea of what an older female BCC will be. Would you be comfortable with the snake in the pic as a pet? If so, then anything smaller would be fine as well.
There are supposed records of 14 footers that get ridiculously huge, but of all the female BCCs I've seen, I rarely have seen then break 11 foot, and even 10 footers are pretty rare.
If you're really on the fence between a female BCI and a male BCC, and aren't won over by the looks of either, I'd go with a female BCI. They've been proven to be less susceptible to imperfections in husbandry.
I personally would go with a female BCC, because I just love the look and size of BCCs. However, the GF isn't comfortable with such a large snake, so I'm limiting myself to the much lighter weight but still lengthy coastal carpet python.

Yeah thats a bit big.... Just sayin... I want somthing in between so I would someday be able to handle a male burm... Thats "the goal", but I have tons of time until that happens. and getting a female BCC that is in the same size range..... well... that defeats the purpose of getting something inbetween lol.
I really do like the BCC's alot more (do you know male size?) i like their patterns and colors more, but if i got a BCI i would probably get a salmon/hypo, maybe something with reduced patterns if i can find it.

Re: BCI / BCC size question
Females are bigger than males in all cases. If you want a snake 6-8 feet, I'd go with a male BCI, or even a dwarf boa female like a hog island or bolivian boa.
Female BCI's and both male/female BCC's will probably be 7ft at a minimum, but can get much bigger than that.

yeah, but i would rather have it closer to 8 or 9 now that i think about it, because 2 more feet on a ball python isnt much of an increase...
Im still thinking male BCC just because i like their colors and patterns more... 7 ft at a minimum... i wonder what the max would be then... 8-9 ft wouldnt be bad 10 is getting bigger though. then again im sure it wouldnt be as bad if I grow up with the snake so it comes slowly. But me having a 10ft snake right now doesnt seem like a good idea

Re: BCI / BCC size question
consider this:
It will take many, many years for a snake to get full grown. Even if you went big and got a female BCC, she's not going to be a 50lb snake overnight. That's going to take many years. You'll learn how to handle her as she grows. The same goes for all your other options.
Also, you might try to stop thinking in "feet". Taiwanese blue beauties hit the 9 foot mark on occasion, and have been documented at 11 foot. I believe these snakes weigh under 5lbs at that size.
The pic I posted is probably a snake just under 10 foot, just comparing the length to the guy holding her. I can't see the end of her tail however. I believe I've read that the snake in that pic weighs 30 kilos. That's something like 65lbs.
I mentioned my carpet python earlier. She'll likely hit at least 9 foot years down the road. I doubt she'll weigh much over 20lbs if she even hits THAT, but I'm no expert on carpet python adult weights.
Try looking at pictures of OLD "fully grown" (they are always growing of course) snakes of the types you're looking at. Nothing gives you a better idea of what you'll end up with 5-10 years down the road than looking at pictures of the snake being handled.

Yeah i know what you mean... I know it will take a while.. then again burms and others get big pretty quick.
haha, i know the length has nothing to do with it but i know boas get a good size girth, i know that feet dont mean much because ive seen retics that are like 6 feet and skinny so they look really small... but i can imagine the width of a boa when its a certain length. Like that one in the pic, the length isnt that bad but the girth might be more then im used to now, but they do take a long time to get that big.
65 lbs is pretty big since its all muscle... lol thats more then my dog, and shes kinda heavy. id be able to haul the snake around but yeah... doesnt seem like it would be to fun to handle. ? or it would be a big work out. im sure it wouldnt be taht bad once i actually KNEW the snake though... but if i was like a random big snake i wouldnt want to deal with that size...
ive seen that pic u posted before, i couldnt find the site that had the other pics of a bunch of BCCs on it. some of them on that page looked bigger, and some smaller then the one posted.
ill look for some male BCC pics, its hard to find what your looking for on google though...
