I never thought about the aspen getting stuck in the males cloaca. Good points.

Great idea... but if I get bit in the video though, I won't seems like a credible source.

Good idea. Should have eggs in a couple days and I'll do an egg setup and incubator video.

"Gringy" is taking the reptile world by storm! Thanks for the feedback and ideas.

Its wild, don't think I ever said it before the video... now it seems like a real word.

I cut it sheet by sheet for almost a year... hopefully I've saved you at least some of that time.

I learned the hard way about 3 seasons ago when I had send my Clown male off to have his abscessed hemipene surgically fixed. Thought it might have been a fluke and then paid the price again the very next year when I had to pull a male out of the breeding rotation for the entire season... thankfully he recovered with just antibiotics.

    Thanks for the comments all!

Re: 1st JKR Pro Tips video!

Since this is a professional comment BG will refrain from using the third person.

This was a good video Justin. I have had the same problem with males during the breeding season year after year. I still use Aspen or Cypress though. I'll just try and stay on top of it by looking at the males "stuff" as much as possible.

I have bred and raised snakes with all different kinds of substrate over the years and I personally believe that the animals don't produce or feed as well on paper. They just seem to go off feed more easily on paper. I think the main reason for this is because of the humidity. It's a lot harder to keep the humidity up with paper, and if you mist the cage, it gets "gringy" really quick.

This is just my personal preference. Just like with boa breeding, I have done many things over the years and found out what's worked best for me. Luckily for everyone, even if you do everything wrong with Balls, 50% of them are gonna produce. I want the highest success rate possible though. If you do everything right with boas it's a different story..... you're an expert if you get 50% good litters.

As far as raising babies go. There is nothing on this earth that works better than Aspen. I have given numerous people this simple tip over the years and most people have had success even if their animal never ate a meal in months.

That was a great video! Do we get to vote on which animal gets shown in the next one? I want to see the shattered fire on camera Unless he's too busy of course.

Re: 1st JKR Pro Tips video!

Nice video Justin! I've always been curious about the blank newsprint. Hopefully I can get it for free where I'm at as well.

I think a really good video to make would be a tutorial on setting up a table at a reptile expo. It could be filmed at the next expo you attend, and maybe you could dub some voice clips over to explain what you're doing if it would be too time consuming to actually give a tutorial while you're setting up a show.

Something like that would be particularly helpful for me because I plan on doing expos within the next year or so, and while I sort of have the essentials figured out, I'd be flying somewhat blind if I had to do an expo, say tomorrow. I think some other people might find something like that helpful as well.

Oh, and also, where do you get those bales of aspen? I've been trying to figure out where to get some around that size, but haven't had any luck. Thanks in advance!

Again, great job, and thanks for the video!
