I would have gone a step further and asked if she had any remote understanding of optimal conditions for tropical species in general, and asked her what on earth would make her think they could survive in temperate environments, let alone anywhere that gets below freezing at any point in the year. Then I would have asked if she thought the same when armadillos, cattle egrets, brown anoles, and a plethora of other exotics invaded Florida decades ago. Then would have called her a hypocrite and told her to stick to chemistry and leave this subject to ecologists and herpetologists because her media-influenced opinion is worth nothing. If I'm going to be kicked out of class, I'm going to earn it.

Well at the university I go to, TA's do all the grading, so I don't really have to worry about pissing off the professor. I already went off on my ecology professor during lecture earlier this semester for using the USGS burm map on one of his PowerPoint slides. I discussed it with him after class and sent him the Pyron et al report, but he emailed Dr. Rodda at the USGS, and apparently is still unfortunately siding with him. Either way, he seems to respect me after it, and I really can't wait for a report to be published on the effects of the cold snap earlier this year on the feral burm population so I can rub that in his face.
