If you have a male albino then you could breed him to them and at least you would have 100% hets.
    Premises:
    Dangerous animals shall be banned.
    Ball Pythons are not dangerous.
    Conclusion:
Therefore, Ball Pythons shall not be banned.

He might have a hard time breeding a male albino to a 50% het Male Could be interesting though lol

Re: just saw this in classifieds

The thing about 50% het is just that, only a 50% chance of them being het. So as far as I am concerned, they are just normals.

If they have been well cared for, it might be worth it. But ask yourself, he says three snakes and one tub? Anyone else notice what is wrong with that equation?

    Gale
    1.0 Low-white Pied - Yakul | 1.0 Granite het Pied - Nago
    1.0 Mojave - Okoto | 1.0 Vanilla - Kodama
    1.0 Pastel - Koroku | 1.0 Fire - Osa
    0.1 het Pied - Toki | 0.1 het Pied - Mauro
    0.1 Mojave - Kina | 0.1 Blushback Cinnamon - Kuri
    0.1 Fire - Mori | 0.1 Reduced Pinstripe - Sumi
    0.1 Pastel - Yuki | 0.1 Dinker Normal - Akashi
    0.1 Ghana Giant Normal - Tatari | 0.1 Dinker Normal - Kaiya

Since Im only 3 weeks into being a snake lover......When they describe the het...are they describing what the snake can produce or are they describing what went into making the snake (the snakes parents)? So what are these snakes? All normals?

this page may help you a lot http://ballpython.ca/genetics.html. albinos are a simple recessive mutation. This means, that both parent animals need to have at least one copy of the gene in question to have the possibility of producing offspring that not only carry the gene, but display the trait that it carries.

Hets, or heterozygous animals, are animals that CARRY the gene but do not display it. They look completely normal. You can not tell which animals in a clutch are hets unless you bred a visual animal (in this case an albino) to a female. ALL the offspring produced would have one copy of the gene (in this scenario it came from dad) so they would be 100% het/heterozygous pied.

100% hets - animals known to be carrying the questioned gene.

66% hets - these animals are produced by breeding two 100% hets together. Once they are proved out by breeding, they either ARE heterozygous or NOT heterozygous for the gene in question. This does not mean that 66% of the babies will be pied/carry the pied gene/etc.

50% or possible hets - these animals are produced by breeding a 100% het animal to a normal animal. The babies have a 50% chance of carrying the gene in question. Like the 66% hets, these guys need to be proven to be het or not by breeding.

1.1.1 - male, female, unknown sex.

    hope that helped!

copied this from a post i made about pieds, but since albino and pied are both simple recessive they both apply

Re: just saw this in classifieds

Here is my take on possible hets:

Back in the day when a Pied was $25,000, Het Pieds were still VERY expensive. So, people would buy Possible Hets because they were affordable compared to the $25K visual price or the $7K per pair for Hets. It helped that almost everyone wanted a Pied too.

In today's market, my feeling is, if you cannot afford at least a Het pair, maybe you cannot afford to buy into that morph. Now before everyone starts throwing a tizzy, I mean this is the best possible way. There are great stories about people proving out Possible Hets. I have not proven one out-had three PH Hypos that came with my Hypo male, pretty much for free, and none of the three ever proved out. So, I might be a bit biased. But, if you can afford a rack, heat, food, etc., I would say get a Het pair minimun of a morph you can afford, from a well respected breeder, and work towards getting the morph you REALLY want at a later date. I am sure a bunch of people are going to disagree with this logic, and that is fine, it is just my opinion.
