switching to a smaller feed item

I am just curious about going from a med. rat to a small rat for feeding. She eats the med. just fine, but she is really growing fast and is very thick. Since they lead a very sedintary life, I dont want to overfeed her. I feed a med. rat every week. I was thinking of changing to a small rat every week, so she doesn't get too fat. I am just looking for thoughts, ideas or concerns on switching.

    TIA

    Todd

She shouldn't get too fat. You will know when you see skin poking out between the scales. I would keep her on Med. She might need a little extra baggage if she stops eating for the next breeding season.

I thought the same thing about my Pastel boy, but since most quit eating he looks really healthy while the others are starting to look a little thin. I'll be happy when this food binge is over.

Re: switching to a smaller feed item

I have 2 large females that are rescues I feed them Med Rats till they caught up on weight Now they are on 1 small rat a week. I want to avoid nonfeeding issues with them like in one of my other female who has now been off feed for 26 days. For what ever reason she has gone to eating only once a month and she is only 962 grams and a "08". She will only take a adult mouse and a large rat pup.
