    Boycott Animal Planet

To all Exotic Animal Owners & Facebook members:

There is a new Facebook Group called "Boycott Animal Planet & Other Programs Using Scare Tactics"
    http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gi...3595070&ref=mf

This group has been created to ask Animal Planet to STOP using fear mongering instead of educating viewers about animals.... See More

WE WILL NO LONGER WATCH THEIR PROGRAMS UNTIL THEY FOCUS ON THESE ISSUES INSTEAD OF SPREADING FEAR AND USING SCARE TACTICS AGAINST REPTILE AND OTHER CAPTIVE BRED EXOTICS.

These media outlets need to focus on REAL problems facing our wildlife: (overfishing, murder of marine mammals, and habitat destruction due to over development, etc) instead of spreading fear.

The private exotic keeping sector has prevented the extinction of hundreds of species. Attacking the people who love and protect them the most is not only ignorant but dangerous to Nature itself.

We will be launching an email & call-in campaign and we need your help!!
With all the new anti-exotic legislations introduced into our congress, the LAST thing we need is a scared public. An educated and compassionate public will accomplish more than fear, which only brews hatred and ignorance.

Please join this group and help us support a more educational approach to exotic animals. One that teaches respect, not fear, and exhibits the usefulness of animals to the ecological security of our world.

    Thank you.

I don't have a facebook, but I will gladly write to them about why I refuse to watch their channel when these call/email campaigns start.

I can support this--their quality of programming overall has hit new lows lately, too. Instead of Meerkat Manor and the Crocodile Hunter, we get "Lost Tapes" and "I Shouldn't Be Alive" and crap like that.

    Re: Boycott Animal Planet

I agree with this entirely. Steve Irwin died and everything went downhill from there The majority of their shows are now mostly about ways animals can kill you, and I'd much prefer documentaries and educational programs.

    Re: Boycott Animal Planet

This is nothing more than a reflection on society as a whole. 20 years ago, you would have never seen such trash on TV like Jersey Shore, or any number of other "reality" shows that air today. Broadcast TV is trash, along with most of cable TV too. If you want to spearhead something worth fighting for, something needs to be done about TV as a whole.

    Re: Boycott Animal Planet

I'm looking forward to Discovery airing "Life". Unfortunately, Animal Planet is just part of a complex of stations owned by Discovery, so I am not sure how much effect boycotting AP alone will have. I'm also not sure I'm willing to boycott all of the Discovery-owned stations.

    Re: Boycott Animal Planet

Here is a sample letter provided by USARK Jonathan Brady. The thing to keep in mind is, if you love reptiles, keep them, and/or breed them, you are now apparently mentally deficient and have social disorders according to Animal Planet.

    Dear ________,

Animal Planet seems to be attacking the reptile and exotic animal industries in an extremely misleading and untruthful way. As a member of this community I am deeply saddened and offended by the gross mischaracterizations of mental illness and irresponsibility of the members of my community. No community or group of like-minded individuals are without their "black eye", but to insinuate and even downright state that the entire community is similar to the outliers is irresponsible and borders on libelous.

Therefore, I will not support Animal Planet by watching their programming or support the companies who advertise on Animal Planet until the programming is pulled, or at least becomes balanced and truthful. Should you decide to pull your commercials from these segments of their programming, or from Animal Planet altogether, please let me know so I may resume supporting your business.

    Thank you,
