    Just a flesh wound..

I wanted to wait until next week to announce my newest additions, but due to a mishap during the trip home (completely my fault..) my lovely little female Nicaraguan boa slipped out of her transport container during the ride home from the havre de grace show.

Thanks to three dedicated friends we located her in the car, took parts of the car off, and got her out. She was wedged into the mechanics of the passenger seat of my SUV. She was removed, but she did sustain a small laceration sometime during this.

I only noticed tonight when i took her out to check on her. I barely spent any time looking her over after my friend found her that i thought i really should do that. I found what appears to be a small area on her lower right side, a few inches above the vent, of no scales--just flesh. I gave her a quick luke warm soak and covered the area with pain free neosporin.

She does not appear to be in any pain. Quite the contrary. She is acting 100% normal. No cruising, shes eaten already with no regurge, she'll bask for a bit then go cool off or use her hide or go under the paper towels.

I can post pics later tonight or tomorrow. I suppose im just looking for how long i should do the neosporin treatment. There is absolutely no sign of bleeding, redness, swelling or infection. Im sure it will scar up nicely, i'm just frustrated because this was entirely my fault and i will NEVER travel with snakes in containers i feel aren't 110% secure. learn from my mistake!

snake bags or TAPED deli cups only. :/

Glad to hear you found her, and that she is doing well. Snakes are resilient, so I'm sure she will heal up nicely.

I have also lost a snake on the way home from a breeder’s house. I was freaking out, to say the least... Luckily I found him about thirty minutes later with his head poking out of my roll bar in my Jeep.

lol, i know other people have had the same thing happen. I just thought i was smarter..yanno?

Did your guy sustain any injuries? Im going to grab some pictures when i get home tonight. I feel bad not letting her settle in, but boas seem to be much more chill than the pythons when it comes to being harassed at any odd hour i feel like pulling her out to check.

No, luckily mine was fine. I don't know why I didn't tie the bag off. I just put him in there, swirled it a few times, and folded the top under the bag. From then on out I tie the bags and use either a zip-tie or tape...

Most of my boas are pretty chill too, except of few of my Nics... They would enjoy nothing less than tagging me.

i got lucky. I had one nic colombian cross (i THINK he was a pure nic, but there is no way of knowing) and my new one and they are both angels. I've had bps with bigger mean streaks in them than those two. My boy (the cross) just went off to a new home and they use him for birthday parties and stuff.

Now with pictures.. Shes still acting completely normal. Inquisitive and exploratory but with a personality. No limp noodle snake syndrome. I dont feel any broken ribs either just the puncture it almost looks like.

Im treating it once a day with an application of non pain relief neosporin.

Here is the face that goes with the injury .

I agree, she is very cute. The wound doesn't look too bad, and should heal up nicely. Glad you saw it and were able to start treating it right away.

she probably would have healed regardless.. She's on paper towels since thats what i start all my new additions on. But she's getting her nightly weighing and neosporin treatment. Shes a bit wrinkly too, but im keeping the himidity lower than i normally would because i dont want any bacteria growth. A bad shed is ok as long as she heals.

Ill keep everyone updated on her progress

Out of thirteen Nics that I own only two shed in pieces at 30 to 40% relative humidity, so she may have a good shed even with the lower humidity. You are right though, one bad shed isn't a big deal as long as she heals.
